Discrimination is a sin against humanity. Ironically, our society witnesses a large number of incidents that clearly discriminate against people. Discrimination based on disability, color, race, sex, marital status is against civil rights. Discrimination is very apparent in workplaces especially in the case of persons with disabilities. This is most obvious in cases where a person on grounds of physical disability. Disability Discrimination in the workplace may include demoting or firing an employee without a reasonable clause. The same can be reflected in the treatment of an employer to a disabled person in recruitment, promotion, assignment to a post on health and certain other services.
According to the guidelines of the Disability Discrimination Act, the employer has the right to dismiss a disabled person if he is unable to perform an operation that another human being can achieve. However, at the same time, it is essential that the employer made an effort to make changes in their working environment so that conditions sufficient to allow the person to carry out their normal course of business. In addition, the employer may seek advice from government agencies that provide services to disability equality. Workplace adjustments include :
* While interviewing a deaf person, the employer must provide an interpreter to help communicate seamlessly with the selection committee.
* Changing the workplace, for example, making ramps, modifying toilets, providing flashing lights to alert hearing impaired
* Make small changes in work practices, such as sharing some duties among staff, regular meal breaks for a person with diabetes
This is a common perception that disability is a physical phenomenon. According to statistics, each of the six people suffers from a mental disability. Mental disability often caused by factors such as stress, anxiety and sleep disorders can be fatal to employee health and well-being. In most cases, problems at home or even issues at workplace may be the cause. The employer must take these issues seriously and address it in the best shape possible.
Disability Discrimination also includes within its scope
* Making working conditions difficult for people with disabilities and make the environment hostile
* Making demeaning comments of his own physical disability
The guidelines of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 makes it unlawful for employers to discriminate against a person because of disability. Family, friends of people with disabilities are also included in this legislation. Since then, the law has been amended and refined to serve the interests of disabled people. According to the guidelines of the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 is unlawful for an employer to discriminate against employees on the basis of disability. Alongside employers, the Disability Discrimination Act applies to registered trade unions, employment agencies and monitoring on the profession to meet more people and eliminate discrimination at a faster pace.
